Technische Universität Berlin is currently advertising the following position(s):

Student assistant (60 hours per month)

Working field:

  • support with research on the literature and state-of-the-art of scientific topics (including AI and society, computers and society, AI ethics, science and technology studies) – 35%
  • contributing to ideas about the design and critical analysis of algorithmic decision systems, including fairness, transparency, and accountability. - 25%
  • helping with data analysis – 10%
  • support with documenting research results (in the form of texts, web pages, visualisations, prototypes) – 20%
  • implementing prototypes of developed solutions – 10%
  • Support in preparing the content for scientific events (e.g., knowledge transfer or co-design workshops, symposia, talks) – 10%

Requirements:

Required qualifications:

  • Solid skills in analysis, linear algebra, and stochastics
  • Solid skills in imperative languages (e.g., C++, Java, Python) and data-analysis soft-ware (e.g., R, Python)
  • Solid skills in data analysis and data science methods
  • A good understanding of machine learning methods
  • Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills.
  • Good command of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), search engines, and LaTex

Preferred qualifications

  • Basic skills in ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and AI
  • Background knowledge in philosophy, ethics, political science, sociology or linguis-tics
  • Experience in the design and creation of algorithmic systems with visibly direct im-pacts on humans
  • Good command of oral and written German.
  • Interest in being part of an interdisciplinary team working for the common good
  • Knowledge and skills in web content creation
  • Critical, interdisciplinary thinking and intellectual openness/flexibility
    Interest in social science and philosophical approaches to algorithmic systems
  • Interest in ethical questions around AI and other algorithmic systems
  • Willingness to work independently and in teams
