Research Associate / Postdoc (m/f/x)

At the Faculty of Mathematics, Institute of Algebra, the Chair of Algebra with a Focus on Group Theory offers a position as

Research Associate / Postdoc (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting October 1, 2024. The position entails 90% of the full-time weekly hours until September 30, 2025 and increase up to 100% of the full-time weekly hours respectively from October 1, 2025 until August 31, 2027. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position aims at obtaining further academic qualification (usually habilitation thesis). Balancing family and career is an important issue. The position is generally suitable for candidates seeking part-time employment. Please indicate your request in your application.

Working field:

You will work in research and teaching at the Chair of Algebra with a Focus on Group Theory or at the Institute of Algebra. You will conduct research on topics in the field of group theory and plan and teach courses for mathematical degree programs and in teaching export. After one year at the latest, you will be expected to teach in German.

Requirements:

You have a very good university degree in the field of mathematics as well as a completed or soon to be completed doctorate in mathematics. You have comprehensive and in-depth knowledge in the field of group theory, preferably with reference to fusion systems or the classification of finite simple groups. You also have a good command of English. Academic teaching experience is also desirable.
