The focus of the position is on (1) user-facing (programming) languages and APIs for integrated data analyses, (2) optimization and compilation of integrated data analysis pipelines, and (3) runtime techniques for the efficient execution of integrated data analyses. The responsibilities of a student employee engineer include:

* Open-source contributions to DAPHNE (https://github.com/daphne-eu/daphne) on APIs, system internals, tests, as well as peripheral tools [60%]
* Implementation of data analysis and ML pipelines (use cases, data science primitives, and applications from various domains) [20%]
* Experimental evaluation of end-to-end integrated data analysis pipelines, system components, and various baselines [20%]

Requirements:

Must-have Criteria:
* Programming experience in C++; Additional experience with Python and shell scripts is an advantage
* Interest in and basic understanding of data management, applied machine learning, compiler construction, distributed systems, and software engineering (at least two)
* Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills
* Ability to communicate and work in a team, independent working style, high motivation

Desirable Criteria:
* Basic experience with version control systems (especially git) and open-source development workflows (especially GitHub) is an advantage
