Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty IV - Institute of Telecommunication Systems / Internet Network Architectures (INET)
Technische Universität Berlin offers an open position:
Research Assistant - salary grade E 13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen - 1st qualification period (PhD candidate)
part-time employment may be possible
The Chair "Internet Architecture and Management" conducts research at the intersection of networked and distributed systems, with a main emphasis on fundamental aspects. Our vision is that networked systems should become self-* (i.e., self-configuring, self-repairing, self-optimizing). Accordingly, we are currently particularly interested in automated and data-driven approaches to design, optimize, and verify networked systems.
As networked systems have become a critical infrastructure of our digital society, it is crucial that they meet stringent dependability and security requirements. These requirements often stand in stark contrast to today's design and operation of networks, which are vulnerable to, e.g., route hijacking, covert and side channels, denial-of-service attacks or make it possible to violate user privacy. These attacks are arguably also enabled by the high complexity of networked systems.
You will contribute towards more secure networked systems and communication networks. In particular, we are interested in topics such as:
Automated discovery of security problems (e.g., using fuzzying, Baysian optimization, etc.)
Security of wireless networks
Privacy in communication networks
Furthermore you will be involved in:
teaching and the organization of teaching; supporting the head of the department in supervising bachelor and master theses
the dissemination of research results: describing the results in scientific publications and posters; presentation of research results on international conferences and workshops, and presentations to industry partners
We are looking for a highly motivated and bright student with the goal to earn a Ph.D.
Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in computer science, computer engineering or a related field is required
Strong background in theoretical and/or applied security aspects is required
Competence in communication networks (e.g., Internet, DNS, BGP) is required
The ability to teach in German and/or in English is required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills
Teaching experience and didactic competence are a plus
Basic experience in research methods and academic writing are a plus
Ability to work in a team of international researchers and good communications skills are desired
