Working field:

The aim of the "SecondLife" project is to develop efficient and sustainable technology options for decarbonizing the process steam supply of a refinery site, integrating the existing infrastructure of a site, and exploiting possible synergy potentials. In this context, simulation and optimization methods as well as energy-based methods are to be further developed and applied.

The tasks essentially include collaboration in project processing. This includes, among other things, the development and further development of the methods used, the preparation and documentation of project results, the preparation and implementation of project meetings of the project network and public workshops, the supervision of student theses within the framework of the project as well as the publication of project results within the framework of reports and scientific papers.

Requirements:

  • Successfully completed academic studies (Master, Diploma, or equivalent) in energy engineering, process engineering, power plant engineering or a closely related engineering science with a focus on energy engineering, thermodynamics and exergy-based methods with a very good degree
  • Very good knowledge of energy conversion concepts and plants, energy storage systems, as well as evaluation methods (exergy analysis, economic analysis)
  • Very good command of German and/or English required; willingness to learn either English or German is expected
  • Independent and structured way of working, ability to work in a team

Desired qualifications:
  • Experience in the simulation and optimization of energy and process engineering processes, for example with the software tools Ebsilon Professional, Aspen Plus or similar and with programming languages (e.g. Python)
  • Experience in the application of exergy-based methods
  • Experience in the organization and execution of and participation in research projects
  • Experience in the publication of research results
