Research Assistant - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

part-time employment may be possible

The chair for High Frequency Systems was recently founded within the Faculty for Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at TU Berlin and is dedicated to microwave and mm-wave technology with strong links to systems and communications engineering. It will be equipped with state-of-the art laboratories and an anechoic measurement chamber, suitable to develop and evaluate radio frontends and antenna systems up to the sub-THz frequency range (30 GHz – 300 GHz). The chair is led by Prof. Wilhelm Keusgen who has a strong background in microwave engineering.

The research work at the chair is intended to the development of technologies for mobile networks of the sixth generation (6G). We are mainly interested in novel physical-layer, frontend and antenna techniques for mobile communication in the mm-wave and sub-THz frequency bands. To support us in this work, we are looking for a research associate to start as soon as possible.

Working field:

  • Carry research and development of sub-THz components and systems based on photonic THz generation
  • Supervise student assistants, B.Sc students, and M.Sc students within the research project

Requirements:

  • Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in a field related to Communication Engineering, Microwave Engineering, Wireless Systems
  • Experience with antenna and microwave design
  • Experience with microwave test and measurement instruments
  • Knowledge of waveguides
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic design tools
  • A team player who can work with a high level of independence and has a proactive and solution-oriented attitude
  • Furthermore, candidates should have excellent English oral and written communication skills (proficiency in German is a plus)

Desirable Knowledge:
  • Basic knowledge in system and signal theory
