At the Insti­tute of Radioon­co­logy – OncoRay sci­ent­ists (f/m/d) spe­cial­iz­ing in medi­cine, phys­ics, bio­logy and IT work together to cru­cially improve the treat­ment of can­cer by admin­is­ter­ing radi­ation ther­apy that is bio­lo­gic­ally-per­son­al­ized and tech­nic­ally-optim­ized.

As part of the Insti­tute, the Depart­ment of Image Guided High Pre­ci­sion Radio­ther­apy invites applic­a­tions as Postdoc (f/m/d) Exper­i­mental Pro­ton Ther­apy.

The pos­i­tion will be avail­able from 1 Septem­ber 2022. The employ­ment con­tract is lim­ited to two years.

PostDoc (f/m/d) Exper­i­mental Pro­ton Ther­apy

Working field:

  • 3D/4D-treat­ment plan­ning for exper­i­mental MR-integ­rated pro­ton ther­apy
  • Estab­lish­ment of online adapt­ive treat­ment work­flow, includ­ing time-resolved ima­ging, dose estim­a­tion, and qual­ity assur­ance
  • Col­lab­or­a­tion with the research group Exper­i­mental MR-integ­rated Pro­ton Ther­apy at OncoRay (Prof. Aswin Hoff­mann) and with the MR-LINAC group of the Fac­ulty of Medi­cine Carl Gustav Carus Dresden (Prof. Esther Troost)
  • Pub­lic­a­tion and present­a­tion of sci­entific res­ults in lead­ing peer-reviewed journ­als and at inter­na­tional con­fer­ences
  • Super­vi­sion of gradu­ation stu­dents (Bach­elor, Mas­ter, PhD)
  • Acquis­i­tion of third-party fund­ing


  • PhD degree in Med­ical Phys­ics or Bio­med­ical Engin­eer­ing
  • In-depth know­ledge of (time-resolved) MR-ima­ging and Radi­ation Ther­apy Phys­ics
  • Advanced exper­i­ence in radi­ation treat­ment plan­ning, for pro­ton ther­apy as well as MR-integ­rated photon ther­apy
  • Excel­lent exper­i­mental and com­puter pro­gram­ming skill
  • Proven abil­ity to work inde­pend­ently, effi­ciently, goal-ori­ented with a strong pro-act­ive per­sonal motiv­a­tion
  • Strong interest in mul­tidiscip­lin­ary and trans­la­tional research
  • Excel­lent Eng­lish com­mu­nic­a­tion skills, both orally and in writ­ing
  • Proven abil­ity to work in an inter­na­tional mul­tidiscip­lin­ary team
