The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

start­ing in Septem­ber 2022. The pos­i­tion entails 65 % of the full­time weekly hours and is lim­ited for 36 months. The period of employ­ment is gov­erned by the Fixed Term Research Con­tracts Act (Wis­senschaft­szeitver­trags­ge­setz - Wis­sZeitVG).

The Cluster of Excel­lence PoL (https://physics-of-life.tu-dresden.de/en) is a cent­ral aca­demic unit and grow­ing inter­dis­cip­lin­ary research cen­ter ded­ic­ated to quant­it­at­ive bio­logy, bio­phys­ics and com­puter sci­ence, which is fun­ded by the Ger­man Research Found­a­tion (DFG) and offers a wide range of sup­port struc­tures, includ­ing state-of-the-art light micro­scopy and advanced bio-image data sci­ence facil­it­ies.

Working field:

Math­em­at­ical mod­el­ing of bio­lo­gical pat­tern form­a­tion dur­ing devel­op­ment and regen­er­a­tion with spe­cial focus on pat­tern scal­ing. (See also pre­vi­ous, related work: https://journals.aps.org/prl/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevLett.114.138101). The suc­cess­ful applic­ant will work in a col­lab­or­at­ive envir­on­ment at the chair of Pro­fessor Friedrich, with a highly inter­dis­cip­lin­ary group of research­ers.

Requirements:

  • out­stand­ing uni­versity degree in Phys­ics or closely related field;
  • exper­i­ence in Com­pu­ta­tional Phys­ics and strong pro­gram­ming skills (e.g. Mat­lab, Python, C);
  • strong interest in apply­ing phys­ics to under­stand life, will­ing­ness to learn some bio­logy en route;
  • strong ana­lytic and prob­lem-solv­ing skills, cre­ativ­ity;
  • excel­lent com­mu­nic­a­tion and present­a­tion skills in Eng­lish.
