Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin - CC11 - Medizinische Klinik m.S. Kardiologie

The Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin is a joint medical faculty, which serves both Freie Universität Berlin and Humboldt Universität zu Berlin. As one of the largest university hospitals in Europe with an important history, it plays a leading role in research, teaching and clinical care. The Charité university hospital has also made a name for itself as a modern business with certifications in the medical, clinical and management fields.

Research Assistant (Postdoc, Data Steward)

Working field:

The Clinical Research Center (SFB 1470) is a consortium of labs exploring heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), an understudied and deadly disease entity, from a variety of synergistic angles. One of its most ambitious goals is to allow comprehensive and systematic integration of findings regarding HFpEF from both preclinical and clinical modalities, placing experimental work into context and leveraging it through computational modeling of the resulting “big data”. Management of such data therefore will be a crucial challenge. This need exists throughout every stage of the CRC's operations, ranging from study design through collection, standardization and harmonization, storage, and retrieval through to systematic analysis of data.

Your area of responsibility:
  • deploying software and hardware infrastructure itself, building on recent Charité and BIH investments, with suppport by staff from the IT department
  • domain-aware coordination of each team in interaction with this infrastructure by reflecting sensitively the needs and idiosyncrasies of preclinical and clinical research practices, as well as those of computational phenomics modeling and simulation
  • coordination of development of SOPs
  • establish and synchronize appropriate data representations
  • ensure ongoing quality control so as to facilitate iterative data analysis
  • regular contact with all subprojects as well as with the service projects
  • prepare and maintain data legacy for subsequent funding periods and follow-up research
  • substantial coordination work
The Data Steward will be supervised, mentored and monitored by Dr. Sofia Forslund (project leader of subproject A05), who has held similar positions in other consortia with very similar data and analysis needs (e.g. FP7: MetaCardis, JPI-HLDL: FATMAL, JPI-AMR: EMBARK & JumpAR, DFG: CRC 1365 RENOPROTECTION, CRU339 FOOD@, BMBF: Wheat-A-BIC) and will be given all needed support from her lab, as well as access to Charité, MDC and BIH IT resources.
Scientific staff is given sufficient time to carry out their own scientific work in accordance with their employment relationship.

Applicants should have either formal training or experience in medical/biological data analysis, medical research and/or data management, interest in all of these, and is expected to hold an advanced degree (MSc, PhD) in an applicable field. Further requirements of the position include:

  • excellent organization and communication skills
  • experience/willingness to bridge between IT, computational analysts, model system biologists, clinicians and core facility operators
  • process tracking and reporting experience is meriting, as is IT and/or medical expertise

The Data Steward will have the opportunity to conduct research within the scope of SFB 1470 collaborations as well as with respect to method and framework development and other topics synergizing with CRC goals.

Both the Charité and MDC are equal opportunity employers eager to increase diversity of its workforce and with both general and SFB-specific plans and procedures intended to foster inclusivity and provide work-life balance. We will be especially happy to receive applications from underrepresented demographics.
