Working field:

The Virus Epidemiology laboratory (headed by Prof. Jan Felix Drexler) at the Institute of Virology at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin conducts research on evolutionary, diagnostic and epidemiological aspects of virology, with a focus on tropical regions of Latin America and Africa. We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to support a project funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development via the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on Pandemic Prevention and Control, One Health.

We seek a postdoc (f/m/d) with a strong research focus on virology. The candidate will lead studies on genetic diversity, epidemiology and evolution of viruses in different hosts and guide younger scientists. Communication with our international partners as well as interest in travelling for scientific exchange with our partners and training worldwide is desired. Requirements:

  • Academic degree in the life sciences
  • Doctorate/PhD in virology or related fields with a strong publication record
  • Fluent German and/or English (Spanish and Portuguese are benefits)
  • A high degree of self-initiative and team-working ability, analytical thinking, excellent organisation and communication skills & self-responsibility are required
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques, cell culture, serological analyses, bioinformatic tools is required; documented excellence in any of these fields can outweigh less experience in other fields
  • Transcriptomics/Metabolomics, mathematical modelling or BSL3 experience are benefits; documented excellence in any of these fields can outweigh less experience in other fields
  • Experience in writing of scientific manuscripts and research grants is required
