The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

start­ing as soon as pos­sible with 80% of the full­time weekly hours and the option of increase. The pos­i­tion is lim­ited until Septem­ber 30, 2024. The period of employ­ment is gov­erned byn­doeko § 2 (2) Fixed Term Research Con­tracts Act (Wis­senschaft­szeitver­trags­ge­setz - Wis­sZeitVG).

The pos­i­tion is part of the research pro­ject “ECO²SCAPE – Co-Design of Eco­lo­gic­ally and Eco­nom­ic­ally Effi­cient Policy Instru­ments and Meas­ures for Con­serving Biod­iversity and Eco­sys­tem Ser­vices in Cul­tural Land­scapes”, fun­ded by the Fed­eral Min­istry of Edu­ca­tion and Research within the Ger­many-wide Research Ini­ti­at­ive for Biod­iversity Con­ser­va­tion (FEdA). Together with farm­ers and local stake­hold­ers in a model region in Sax­ony, ECO²SCAPE will develop novel agri-envir­on­mental meas­ures and study their effects on biod­iversity and eco­sys­tem ser­vices using an innov­at­ive, sys­temic and trans­dis­cip­lin­ary research approach. We seek a new col­league who would like to sup­port this pro­ject with their work, con­trib­ute their own ideas and ini­ti­at­ives to the research pro­ject and who enjoys work­ing in an open-minded, inter­na­tional and cre­at­ive pro­ject team.

Working field:

Con­duc­ting bio­di­ver­sity models (e.g. occup­ancy models) based on pro­ject data (e.g. bird sur­veys); deve­lop­ment and imple­men­ta­tion of land­s­cape-scale models for allo­ca­ting coope­ra­tive agri-envi­ron­men­tal mea­su­res; active par­ti­ci­pa­tion in the pro­ject con­sor­tium (inclu­ding pro­ject mee­tings, data manage­ment, coope­ra­tion with rese­ar­chers from the fields of com­pu­ter sci­ence, envi­ron­men­tal eco­no­mics and poli­ti­cal sci­ence); working on sci­en­ti­fic publi­ca­ti­ons and pre­sen­ting rese­arch results at work­shops and inter­na­tio­nal con­fe­ren­ces; pro­ject–rela­ted super­vi­sion of stu­dent assi­stants and final the­ses.

Requirements:

Uni­ver­sity and, if app­li­ca­ble, PhD degree in eco­logy (or rela­ted) with a focus on bio­di­ver­sity and con­ser­va­tion bio­logy; excel­lent skills in bio­di­ver­sity model­ling; know­ledge in hand­ling spa­tial data (pre­fer­a­bly in R); pro­fi­ci­ency in spo­ken and writ­ten Eng­lish; publi­ca­tion record in inter­na­tio­nal peer-reviewed jour­nals on topics rela­ted to this posi­tion; self-dri­ven, fle­xi­ble and result-ori­en­ted work ethic; above-average orga­ni­za­tio­nal and com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills; a pen­chant for working clo­sely with trans­di­sci­pli­nary pro­ject part­ners; class B dri­ver’s license (or EU equi­va­lent). Orni­tho­lo­gi­cal know­ledge is desi­ra­ble. Know­ledge of Ger­man is desi­ra­ble but not man­datory.
