Bio­func­tional Poly­mer Mater­i­als

The Fac­ulty of Envir­on­ment and Nat­ural Sci­ences of Branden­burg Uni­versity of Tech­no­logy Cottbus–Sen­ften­berg (BTU), in joint appoint­ment with the Fraunhofer Soci­ety, offers a:

W1 – JUNIOR PRO­FESS­OR­SHIP Bio­func­tional Poly­mer Mater­i­als (with ten­ure track option to a W3 pro­fess­or­ship)

in asso­ci­ation with the man­age­ment of the Fraunhofer pro­ject group "Bio­func­tion­al­iza-tion/Bio­lo­giz­a­tion of Poly­mer Mater­i­als" at the Fraunhofer Insti­tute for Applied Poly­mer Research IAP at the BTU Cottbus-Sen­ften­berg.

The Branden­burg Uni­versity of Tech­no­logy Cottbus-Sen­ften­berg (BTU) is the second largest uni­versity and the only tech­nical uni­versity in the state of Branden­burg. In research and tech­no­logy trans­fer, great value is placed on cooper­a­tion with other uni­versit­ies and non-uni­versity research insti­tu­tions, with regional small and medium-sized com­pan­ies as well as with large and glob­ally act­ive cor­por­a­tions.

The junior pro­fess­or­ship includes research and teach­ing in the fields of integ­ra­tion of bio­lo­gical func­tions in poly­mer-based mater­i­als as well as the under­ly­ing bio­lo­gical and chem­ical meth­ods with the main focus on
  • mater­i­als sci­ence of plastics and their pro­cessing
  • Tech­no­lo­gies for the modi­fic­a­tion of poly­mer sur­faces
  • Bio­chem­ical and molecu­lar basis of bio­act­ive molecules like pro­teins, pep­tides and sugar molecules
  • Bio­tech­no­lo­gical basis of the pro­duc­tion of bio­act­ive molecules

Teach­ing respons­ib­il­it­ies include basic and advanced lec­tures as well as par­ti­cip­a­tion in labor­at­ory courses in the bach­elor and mas­ter pro­gram "Mater­i­als Chem­istry". Duties also include teach­ing in other BTU courses of study. Courses may also be held in Eng­lish.

The junior pro­fess­or­ship is asso­ci­ated with the man­age­ment of the Fraunhofer pro­ject group "Bio­func­tion­al­iz­a­tion/Bio­lo­giz­a­tion of Poly­mer Mater­i­als" at the Fraunhofer Insti­tute for Applied Poly­mer Research IAP at the BTU Cottbus-Sen­ften­berg. It com­prises the sci­entific and eco­nomic man­age­ment and devel­op­ment of the pro­ject group within the Fraunhofer model as well as the close cooper­a­tion with the par­ent insti­tute in Pots­dam-Golm.

In your new pos­i­tion, you will com­pet­ently rep­res­ent the main top­ics in research and teach­ing as well as in research and tech­no­logy man­age­ment vis-à-vis pub­lic research fund­ing and research par­ti­cipants from industry and sci­ence, and expand the stra­tegic rela­tion­ship between the Uni­versity and the Fraunhofer Insti­tute.

Fur­ther duties res­ult from § 42 Branden­burg Higher Edu­ca­tion Act (BbgHG) in con­junc­tion with
§ 3 BbgHG.


You can demon­strate a high sci­entific qual­ity of your research and devel­op­ment work as well as the abil­ity to acquire fund­ing research and devel­op­ment pro­jects from pub­lic and indus­trial cli­ents in the field of devel­op­ment, research and pro­duc­tion of bio­act­ive molecules and their integ­ra­tion into or onto poly­mer-based mater­i­als and con­tinue this in the con­text of future tasks.

In addi­tion, you have exper­i­ence in stra­tegic plan­ning, acquis­i­tion, coordin­a­tion and man­age­ment of national and prefer­ably also inter­na­tional research and devel­op­ment pro­jects in dif­fer­ent busi­ness areas and show com­pet­ences in increas­ing the effi­ciency of devel­op­ment pro­cesses and in ex-ploit­a­tion of tech­no­logy.

The require­ments and con­di­tions for employ­ment are in §§ 45 and 46 BbgHG. As a rule, the period of full-time sci­entific activ­ity between the last exam­in­a­tion of the doc­tor­ate and the applic­a­tion for the junior pro­fess­or­ship may not exceed six years.
Per­sons who ful­fill the require­ments for a uni­versity pro­fess­or­ship accord­ing to § 41 Abs. 1 Nr.
4a BbgHG can­not be con­sidered for this selec­tion pro­ced­ure.
Accord­ing to § 46 BbgHG junior pro­fess­ors are appoin­ted as tem­por­ary civil ser­vants for a period of up to four years. In the case of a pos­it­ive interim eval­u­ation, the appoint­ment may be exten­ded to a max­imum of six years. Upon suc­cess­ful per­form­ance dur­ing the six-year junior pro­fess­or­ship, the ten­ure track provides the option of trans­fer­ring a W3 grade pro­fess­or­ship to the holder of the pos­i­tion after an appoint­ment pro­ced­ure has been car­ried out. Ten­ure eval­u­ation is con­duc­ted in accord­ance with § 11 of the BTU Ten­ure-Track Reg­u­la­tions.
