Our research and project work focuses on systemic, economic and societal considerations of Community Energy, Renewable Energy Transformations and Adaptation to Climate Change. Through critical analysis and an interdisciplinary team of engineers, economists and social scientist, we investigate impactful and sustainable concepts depending on the local needs, priorities and resources. We collaborate with international partners in the areas of research, development cooperation, private sector and public organizations at various levels.
In several projects, we collaborate with the Berlin-based NGO Hudara gGmbH. Hudara is an independent and impartial organization that is committed to people whose lives are affected by poverty, conflict and climate change. The organization’s projects focus on issues such as community development, peaceful coexistence, well-being and mental health, climate change mitigation and adaptation, as well as social and environmental justice. The aim of all action is to decentralize debates and interventions, strengthen horizontal lines of communication and work in close collaboration with people of the community and local initiatives. Working field:

The scope of the position to be filled relates to project tasks within the European research projects "MAESHA" and "ENERGICA". This includes scientific investigations of the economic, ecological and political framework conditions in Mayotte, Madagascar, Kenya and Sierra Leone. Based on the investigations, innovative and effective approaches are to be developed that bring together sustainability, development and economics of energy transformations. In addition, there is the opportunity to work on the topics climate justice, climate change adaptation, community energy, and energy transformations in the global South.


  • successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in Economics or Economics with a major in Ecological Economics, Environmental Economics, Development Economics or other related field; above average achievements desired
  • very good command of written and spoken English

Can-do criteria
  • interest in or prior knowledge of climate justice, climate change adaptation, community energy, and energy transformations in the Global South
  • knowledge of another language such as German, French, or Arabic
