The selected candidates will have opportunities to work in an enriching interdisciplinary environment, with significant potential for broad impact in terms of technology development, industry involvement, and educational initiatives. They are expected to develop a PhD-level research activity around the topics of the TUB-Huawei Joint Innovation Center (WJIC Projekt 2, PI Prof. Caire), focused on innovative solutions for future Wireless Communication Systems beyond 5G. In particular, this research project focuses on Intelligent Reconfigurable Surfaces for Over-the-air Beamforming, RF-photonic Implementation of Energy Efficient Beamforming for very high frequencies (from mmWaves to sub-THz), and Related System Optimization and Information Theoretic Analysis. Algorithms based on Deep Learning techniques will be considered, therefore some background in Deep Learning is highly appreciated.

The position is intended for a PhD thesis on a project related topic supervised by Prof. Caire.


Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in in a field related to Science of Information, for example: Information Theory, Communication Systems and Networks, antennas and propagation, Antenna Design, modeling of RF components, Convex/Combinatorial Optimization, Machine Learning, Random Matrix Theory and High-dimensional Statistics. Furthermore, candidates should have excellent English oral and written communication skills (proficiency in German is a plus).
