qualification period (PhD candidate)
Research on structure-function relationships of carotenoid-binding proteins, teaching obligations (2 SWS, hours per semester week at 0.5 part-time) in laboratory practical couses and tutorials in Physical Chemistry
Generation of cDNA constructs for protein and carotenoid production in bacteria by molecular-biological methods, site-directed mutagenesis, recombinant PCR
Carotenoid and protein production in bacteria, chromatographic purification and analytics
Mass spectrometry of carotenoids and carotenoid-binding proteins
Protein expression with template-directed incorporation of non-natural amino acids
Spectroscopic studies of carotenoid-binding proteins
Probe preparation and analysis with NMR (structure determination)
Teaching obligations in laboratory practical courses and tutorials (2 SWS, hours per semester week at 0.5 part-time) in Physical Chemistry
Writing/editing of scientific manuscripts for publication, conference and project reports
Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in chemistry with major subjects (bio)-physical chemistry and biological chemistry
Extensive experience in molecular biology, protein biochemistry and bioanalytical techniques (FPLC, HPLC, SEC, HIC, ESI-MS, LC-MS)
Expertise in spectroscopic techniques (UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, fluorescence lifetime spectroscopy, CD spectroscopy)
Firm expertise in handling complex computational data analysis tools for evaluating spectroscopic data
Practical experience with Synthetic Biology methods (template-directed incorporation of non-canonical amino acids into proteins)
Experience with computational modeling of complex reaction kinetics with rate equation models, fluent German and English (oral and written), expertise in university teaching and education, especially teaching formats of research-based learning.
