European Uni­versity Viad­rina - Chair of Soci­ology of Tech­no­logy at the European new School of Digital Stud­ies (ENS)

The chair of Soci­ology of Tech­no­logy is home of the Sci­ence & Tech­no­logy Stud­ies Group at the European New School of Digital Stud­ies. Its research focuses on infra­struc­tures of digital Europe, on inter­dis­cip­lin­ary forms of co-cre­ation und pro­to­typ­ing, as well as on digital and in(ter)vent­ive meth­ods. Based on a strong back­ground in soci­ology and cul­tural stud­ies we col­lab­or­ate with research­ers from com­puter sci­ence, elec­trical engin­eer­ing, polit­ical sci­ence, philo­sophy and his­tory and are engaged with act­ors from polit­ics, civil soci­ety and the arts.

Work­ing field:

Fields of tasks and required com­pet­ences:
Applic­ants are required to be able to per­form tasks in one or more of the fol­low­ing domains:
  • Aca­demic sup­port of research and pub­lic­a­tion activ­it­ies (e.g. review­ing lit­er­at­ure, cre­at­ing text cor­pora and over­views, media research, proofread­ing) Back­ground in social sci­ence or cul­tural stud­ies pre­ferred
  • Cod­ing and use of soft­ware for research and pro­jects (e.g. devel­op­ing pars­ers, hand­ling data­bases, and digital meth­ods and data ana­lyt­ics tools, cre­at­ing pro­ject web­sites.) Exper­i­ences with Python, Sel­en­ium, Python, R are pre­ferred
  • Sup­port of research cre­ation, par­ti­cip­at­ory design and artistic research pro­jects (e.g. organ­iz­ing inter­dis­cip­lin­ary work­shops, sup­port­ing design pro­cesses, present­a­tions and exhib­i­tions) Back­ground in artistic stud­ies, art or cul­tural edu­ca­tion, cur­a­tion, or artistic research pre­ferred
  • Gen­eral sup­port (e.g. pre­par­ing read­ers, com­mu­nic­at­ing with the uni­versity lib­rary, main­tain­ing repos­it­or­ies, organ­iz­ing aca­demic and stake­holder work­shops)

Require­ments:

  • Applic­ants should be enrolled in a bach­elor or mas­ter pro­gram in the social sci­ences, human­it­ies, com­puter sci­ence, arts or design.
  • Open­ness to STS con­cepts and exper­i­ence with qual­it­at­ive social sci­ence research meth­ods is desir­able.
  • You should be inter­ested in work­ing across the dis­cip­lines and in enga­ging with other know­ledge cul­tures.
  • You should fur­ther be cap­able of and inter­ested in work­ing both as part of a team and inde­pend­ently.
  • Flu­ency in Eng­lish is essen­tial for the aca­demic life at the cen­ter.
