Der For­schungs­be­reich für Adap­tive Ratio­na­li­tät (ARC) ver­eint eine inter­dis­zi­pli­näre, inter­na­tio­nale For­scher­gruppe, die sich aus Wis­sen­schaft­le­rin­nen und Wis­sen­schaft­lern der Psy­cho­lo­gie, Neu­ro­wis­sen­schaf­ten, Öko­no­mie, Phi­lo­so­phie, Bio­lo­gie und Mathe­ma­tik zusam­men­setzt. Wir unter­su­chen, wie Men­schen und andere Lebe­we­sen – aus­ge­stat­tet mit begrenz­ten kogni­ti­ven Res­sour­cen – in der Welt und im Gedächt­nis nach Infor­ma­tio­nen suchen und wie sie Ent­schei­dun­gen tref­fen, wenn wenig Zeit für sorg­fäl­ti­ges Nach­den­ken bleibt.

2 Stu­dent Rese­arch Assi­stants

The cen­ter for Adap­tive Ratio­na­lity direc­ted by Ralph Hertwig at the Max Planck Insti­tute for Human Deve­lop­ment is see­king app­li­cants for a posi­tion as 2 Stu­dent Rese­arch Assi­stants
to assist the ongo­ing rese­arch in all pha­ses of the sci­en­ti­fic pro­cess. Rese­arch assi­stants are usually employed on a basis of 40 hours to 83 hours per month. The actual amount of hours for the employ­ment can be fle­xi­bly deter­mi­ned tog­e­ther with the can­di­date. The posi­tion lasts for 6 mon­ths or lon­ger. The anti­ci­pa­ted start date is the 15th of April 2021.


Assi­s­tance of the ongo­ing rese­arch in all pha­ses of the sci­en­ti­fic pro­cess.

Er­war­te­te Qua­li­fi­ka­tio­nen:

  • Enroll­ment in Psy­cho­logy, Neu­ro­sci­ence or a rela­ted sub­ject at a Ger­man uni­ver­sity
  • High inte­rest in par­ti­ci­pa­ting in rese­arch on cogni­tive sci­ence, neu­ro­sci­ence, memory and/or decision making
  • Good pro­fi­ci­ency in Eng­lish and Ger­man
  • High inte­rest in data collec­tion using elec­tro­en­ce­pha­logra­phy (EEG), eye­tracking, and other methods (no prior expe­ri­ence requi­red)
  • Social com­pe­tence when dealing with study par­ti­ci­pants

Desi­red qua­li­fi­ca­ti­ons (not all are necessary to apply)
  • Basic pro­gramming skills (e.g., Mat­lab, Python) would be of advan­tage
  • Basic know­ledge with ver­sion con­trol (git) and popu­lar git hos­ting ser­vices (Git­Hub, Git­Lab) would be of advan­tage

The Cen­ter for Adap­tive Ratio­na­lity is inves­ti­ga­ting various aspects of judgment and decision-making. We offer you the chance to par­ti­ci­pate in an inter­na­tio­nal and inter­di­sci­pli­nary rese­arch team. Rese­arch assi­stants will be invol­ved in rese­arch using beha­vio­ral, com­pu­ta­tio­nal and/or neu­ro­sci­ence methods to study the cogni­tive, affec­tive, social and/or deve­lop­men­tal basis for decision making. The Max Planck Society is com­mit­ted to employ­ing more indi­vi­du­als with disa­bi­li­ties and espe­ci­ally encou­ra­ges qua­li­fied indi­vi­du­als to apply.
