University professorship for Diseases of Swine

The successful applicant will cover research, teaching, and service in the clinical disciplines of herd health management, reproduction, and internal and surgical diseases of swine.
The professorship includes the responsibility of leading the Division for Swines at the Clinical Center for Farm Animals.
Appointment requirements are governed by Article 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz – BerlHG).
Successful candidates should hold a university degree in veterinary medicine as well as be qualified as a specialized veterinarian for swine pursuant to Article 100, paragraph 5 of the Berlin Higher Education Act and/or a diplomate of the European College of Porcine Health Management. They should be able to demonstrate academic accomplishments (as defined by Article 100, paragraphs 2 and 6 BerlHG) in the field of swine-specific veterinary science. In addition, candidates for the position will have participated in internationally recognized research projects focused on preventing and treating infectious diseases as well as swine fertility management. They should also be able to show that they have experience in herd health management, diagnostic care of pig populations, as well as collecting and recording animal welfare indicators in pig populations. Experience in teaching at the university level, including postgraduate training and education, is a further prerequisite. The applicants should also be able to demonstrate experience in acquiring and leading externally funded re-search projects.
Along with the regular official duties of professors listed in Article 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following activities:
The new professor will develop new research areas and continue to build on existing ones. They will also be expected to work together closely with the working groups within the Veterinary Center for Resistance Research at the Department of Veterinary Medicine at Freie Universität Berlin and integrate their research into those structures. Moreover, the professor will cooperate with other institutions and working groups at Freie Universität Berlin as well as relevant research institutions in the Berlin/Brandenburg metropolitan region. It will be also expected to teach courses in ways that are sensitive to gender and diversity issues.
