Work­ing field:

The suc­cess­ful applic­ant will cover research, teach­ing, and ser­vice in the clin­ical dis­cip­lines of herd health man­age­ment, repro­duc­tion, and internal and sur­gical dis­eases of swine.

The pro­fess­or­ship includes the respons­ib­il­ity of lead­ing the Divi­sion for Swines at the Clin­ical Cen­ter for Farm Anim­als.

Appoint­ment require­ments are gov­erned by Art­icle 100 of the Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act (Ber­liner Hoch­schul­ge­setz – Ber­lHG).

Suc­cess­ful can­did­ates should hold a uni­versity degree in veter­in­ary medi­cine as well as be qual­i­fied as a spe­cial­ized veter­in­arian for swine pur­su­ant to Art­icle 100, para­graph 5 of the Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act and/or a dip­lo­mate of the European Col­lege of Por­cine Health Man­age­ment. They should be able to demon­strate aca­demic accom­plish­ments (as defined by Art­icle 100, para­graphs 2 and 6 Ber­lHG) in the field of swine-spe­cific veter­in­ary sci­ence. In addi­tion, can­did­ates for the pos­i­tion will have par­ti­cip­ated in inter­na­tion­ally recog­nized research pro­jects focused on pre­vent­ing and treat­ing infec­tious dis­eases as well as swine fer­til­ity man­age­ment. They should also be able to show that they have exper­i­ence in herd health man­age­ment, dia­gnostic care of pig pop­u­la­tions, as well as col­lect­ing and record­ing animal wel­fare indic­at­ors in pig pop­u­la­tions. Exper­i­ence in teach­ing at the uni­versity level, includ­ing post­gradu­ate train­ing and edu­ca­tion, is a fur­ther pre­requis­ite. The applic­ants should also be able to demon­strate exper­i­ence in acquir­ing and lead­ing extern­ally fun­ded re-search pro­jects.

Along with the reg­u­lar offi­cial duties of pro­fess­ors lis­ted in Art­icle 99 of the Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the fol­low­ing activ­it­ies:

The new pro­fessor will develop new research areas and con­tinue to build on exist­ing ones. They will also be expec­ted to work together closely with the work­ing groups within the Veter­in­ary Cen­ter for Res­ist­ance Research at the Depart­ment of Veter­in­ary Medi­cine at Freie Uni­versität Ber­lin and integ­rate their research into those struc­tures. Moreover, the pro­fessor will cooper­ate with other insti­tu­tions and work­ing groups at Freie Uni­versität Ber­lin as well as rel­ev­ant research insti­tu­tions in the Ber­lin/Branden­burg met­ro­pol­itan region. It will be also expec­ted to teach courses in ways that are sens­it­ive to gender and diversity issues.
