Im Her­zen der Lau­sitz ver­bin­det die BTU her­aus­ra­gende inter­na­tio­nale For­schung mit zukunfts­ori­en­tier­ter Lehre. Sie leis­tet mit Wis­sens-, Tech­no­lo­gie­trans­fer und Wei­ter­bil­dung einen wich­ti­gen Bei­trag für Gesell­schaft, Kul­tur und Wirt­schaft. Als Tech­ni­sche Uni­ver­si­tät bie­tet die BTU ein bun­des­weit ein­zig­ar­ti­ges Lehr­kon­zept: Bei uns kön­nen Stu­di­en­gänge uni­ver­si­tär, fach­hoch­schu­lisch und dual stu­diert wer­den.

Pro­fess­or­ship Soci­ology of Tech­no­logy and Envir­on­ment (W3)

Work­ing field:

We are look­ing for someone who is a recog­nized expert in the social sci­ences with an expert­ise in the soci­ology of tech­no­logy and envir­on­mental soci­ology. The suc­cess­ful can­did­ate will not only be an out­stand­ing researcher, but also an inspir­a­tional lec­turer.
The pos­i­tion holder is expec­ted to con­duct research in the rel­ev­ant fields of the soci­ology of tech-nology and envir­on­mental soci­ology and to con­trib­ute to the research focus of the Uni­versity. The research may focus on one of the fol­low­ing themes and their import­ance for the envir­on­ment:
  • Form­a­tion con­di­tions of tech­nical sys­tems and arte­facts
  • The­or­ies and mod­els of socio-tech­nical devel­op­ments
  • Gov­ernance of com­plex socio-tech­nical sys­tems

The Uni­versity is look­ing for a researcher whose work explores sys­tem­at­ic­ally the area of soci­ology of tech­no­logy and envir­on­mental soci­ology, with a par­tic­u­lar emphasis on the inter­sec­tions of both fields.

Other duties res­ult from the require­ments set by § 42 Branden­bur­gisches Hoch­schul­ge­setz (Higher Edu­ca­tion Act of the State of Branden­burg - BbgHG) in con­junc­tion with § 3 BbgHG. Lec­tures are primar­ily to be held in Ger­man, flu­ency in Eng­lish is expec­ted.

Require­ments:

The pos­tholder should have a proven record of out­stand­ing research as evid­enced by inter­na­tion­ally and nation­ally excel­lent journal pub­lic­a­tions or with lead­ing book pub­lish­ers and a proven track record in suc­cess­fully bid­ding for external fund­ing in rel­ev­ant research and/or policy areas.
Evid­ence of a pro­file as an extern­ally recog­nised author­ity with an estab­lished national and emer­ging inter­na­tional repu­ta­tion in the field of soci­ology of tech­no­logy and envir­on­mental soci­ology.

Can­did­ates should have exper­i­ence in for­ging and con­duct­ing inter­dis­cip­lin­ary research, par­tic­u­larly within the field of nat­ural and tech­nical sci­ences.
Inter­na­tion­al­iz­a­tion is a high pri­or­ity for the BTU. It is desir­able that can­did­ates have an estab­lished track of inter­na­tional research and teach­ing exper­i­ence.

The chairholder is respons­ible for deliv­er­ing advanced and intro­duct­ory core and elect­ive mod­ules in Ger­man and Eng­lish at Bach­elor and Mas­ter level and as part of dif­fer­ent Bach­elor- and Mas­ter pro­grams, with an emphasis on the Cul­ture and Tech­no­logy pro­gram.
It is expec­ted that the mod­ules delivered by the suc­cess­ful can­did­ate will be eli­gible to stu­dents from other dis­cip­lines as well, par­tic­u­lar stu­dents from the engin­eer­ing and envir­on­mental sci­ences. It is desir­able that the can­did­ate con­trib­utes to the spe­cific research focus areas of the Uni­versity and pos­sesses out­stand­ing ped­ago­gical and higher edu­ca­tion teach­ing skills. Abil­ity to work in a team and out­stand­ing social skills are essen­tial.

§§ 41 para­graph 1 No 1 – 4a and 43 BbgHG for pre­requis­ites and con­di­tions of employ­ment. Exper­i­ence in the acquis­i­tion and real­iz­a­tion of third-party fun­ded pro­jects is expec­ted. Fields of research should be rel­ev­ant for the DFG (Ger­man Research Found­a­tion) or sim­ilar inter­na­tional research fund­ing organ­iz­a­tions.
