RWTH Aachen - I. Physikalisches Institut

The I. Institute of Physics of RWTH Aachen University is one of the leading German research institutes for research on chalcogenide materials with application for memristive devices.

Research Assistant / Associate (w/m/d)

Aufgabenbeschreibung:

The PhD candidate will work on growing and investigating chalcogenide thin-films with application for memristive devices. This project is part of the SFB 917 Nanoswitches (www.sfb917.rwth-aachen.de). Hence, the candidate has the possibility to interact with many well-established scientists. The goal of the present project is to grow very thin chalcogenide films by controlling their structure and composition and subsequently investigate the resulting properties of the samples utilizing a variety of techniques. We have evidence that such films will show a plethora of fascinating properties, which are important for technological applications as well as a fundamental understanding of structure – property relationships.

Erwartete Qualifikationen:

The PhD candidate shall have an university degree (master or equivalent) in physics or material science. Previous strong knowledge in surface science and, if possible, extensive expertise in x-ray diffraction or one of deposition techniques, sputtering or molecular-beam epitaxy are highly desired.
Excellent English and German skills are mandatory. Moreover, the Phd candidate will be surrounded by state-of-the art equipment and very friendly, motivated, and skilled colleagues.

The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree.

The salary corresponds to level EG 13 TV-L.

We particularly welcome and encourage applications from women, disabled persons and ethnic minority groups, recognizing they are underrepresented across RWTH Aachen University. The principles of fair and open competition apply and appointments will be made on merit. RWTH Aachen is an equal opportunities employer.
