Bran­den­bur­gi­sche Tech­ni­sche Uni­ver­si­tät Cott­bus-Senf­ten­berg - Faculty of Envi­ron­ment and Natu­ral Sci­en­ces of Bran­den­burg Uni­ver­sity of Tech­no­logy (BTU) Cott­bus–Senf­ten­berg invi­tes app­li­ca­ti­ons for a joint pro­fes­sor­ship with the Leib­niz Centre for Agri­cul­tu­ral Land­s­cape Rese­arch (ZALF), Mün­che­berg


Work­ing field:

The suc­cess­ful can­did­ate is expec­ted to con­duct innov­at­ive research in the field of envir­on­mental data sci­ences includ­ing mod­ern research data man­age­ment as well as a close link to envir­on­mental mod­el­ling activ­it­ies. A pro­found under­stand­ing will be required in apply­ing and devel­op­ing advanced data sci­ence tech­niques, such as machine learn­ing, deep learn­ing, pat­tern recog­ni­tion, non-lin­ear sys­tems ana­lysis, to com­plex struc­tured or unstruc­tured data from envir­on­mental, geo-, bio­lo­gical and/or agri­cul­tural sci­ences in a highly inter­dis­cip­lin­ary con­text.
The pos­i­tion will be loc­ated at ZALF in Müncheberg, close to Ber­lin. The can­did­ate will become co-head of the Research Plat­form Data at ZALF. The joint pro­fess­or­ship will be filled under the Jülich Model, with a teach­ing oblig­a­tion of 2 hours per week and semester at the BTU, gen­er­ally in Eng­lish and Ger­man lan­guage. It is expec­ted that the suc­cess­ful can­did­ate fosters research cooper­a­tion between ZALF and BTU in the field of envir­on­mental data sci­ence.
Other duties res­ult from the require­ments set by § 42 Branden­bur­gisches Hoch­schul­ge­setz (Higher Edu­ca­tion Act of the State of Branden­burg - BbgHG) in con­junc­tion with § 3 BbgHG.


Pre­requis­ites and con­di­tions of employ­ment fol­low §§ 41 para­graph 1 (no. 1 - 4a) and 43 of the BbgHG. Par­tic­u­larly, can­did­ates need to doc­u­ment a Habil­it­a­tion or com­par­able sci­entific achieve­ments and a clear sci­entific pro­file. An excel­lent record of pub­lic­a­tions in peer-reviewed journ­als and exper­i­ence in the acquis­i­tion and real­iz­a­tion of third-party fun­ded pro­jects in the field is expec­ted. The field of research should be rel­ev­ant for DFG (Ger­man Research Found­a­tion) fund­ing.

What we of­fer:

The pro­fess­or­ship will be appoin­ted per­man­ently as a civil ser­vant or pub­lic employee; For can­did­ates who are appoin­ted to a pro­fess­or­ship for the first time, the appoint­ment will ini­tially be lim­ited to 5 years accord­ing to § 43 (1) BbgHG. BTU and ZALF seek to increase the pro­por­tion of women in research and teach­ing and par­tic­u­larly encour­age female applic­ants to apply for this pos­i­tion. ZALF and BTU are cer­ti­fied fam­ily friendly insti­tu­tions, BTU offers Dual-Career-Ser­vices. Severely dis­abled applic­ants will be given pref­er­en­tial con­sid­er­a­tion in the event of equal qual­i­fic­a­tion.
