RWTH Aachen - Chair for Computational Analysis of Technical Systems

Research aim at our institute is to bridge the gap between simulation-based and experimental investigations for a variety of engineering problems. Focus is the development and assessment of both physical models and numerical methods. In most cases, the numerical methods are connected to complex applications. A selection of important research fields are stabilized finite element methods for fluids, numerical shape optimization and non-Newtonian material models. Please refer to for further information.

Research Assistant/Associate

Simulation techniques have become an important instrument for the development, design and quality assurance of engineering components. Since its foundation in 2004, our institute conducts active research at the interface between mechanical engineering and applied mathematics. Our main focus is the development and implementation of numerical methods. Currently, we are searching for a new doctoral candidate in the area of modeling and numerical methods for flow simulation for biomedical applications. Blood flow in the heart, arteries, and artificial pumps are the focus of current research. The investigation is to be performed in close collaboration with clinical and industrial partners.

Erwartete Qualifikationen:

Requirement for this position is an University degree (Master or equivalent) n CES, engineering, applied mathematics, physics or a similar subject with a superior academic record. Practical programming experience in Fortran, C or C++ as well as with parallelization (MPI or OpenMP) are of advantage. Familiarity with UNIX operating system would be ideal. We expect you to contribute to general tasks at the institute, such as teaching and advising master or project theses.

Unser Angebot:

The position is for one year and is to be filled as soon as possible. An Extension of two is planned. There is an option of extension for up to four more years. This is a full-time position. It is also available as part-time employment per request.

The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree.

The salary corresponds to level EG 13 TV-L.

RWTH Aachen University is certified as a "Family-Friendly University". We particularly welcome and encourage applications from women, disabled persons and ethnic minority groups, recognizing they are underrepresented across RWTH Aachen University. The principles of fair and open competition apply and appointments will be made on merit.
