Issue: RNA interference based therapy for adenovirus infections in the immunosuppressed host. In the project different molecular antivirals (siRNAs, soluble virus receptors and pharmaceuticals) shall be used alone or in combinations to treat adenovirus infections to find out whether by combination therapies antiviral efficiency can be increased. Investigations will be carried out in vitro for which
standard virological, biochemical and techniques of molecular biology will be employed. Much work will carried out in vivo, in which in vitro results shall be verified. For in vivo experiments a model of immunosuppressed Syrian hamsters will be used. The model is established. The research associate shall carry out the investigations, evaluate the results, prepare manuscripts and congress contributions, giving lectures on scientific meetings.
Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) biology, biochemistry, medicine, veterinary medicine or biotechnology. Profound knowledge in biochemical and virological techniques and techniques of molecular biology. Long term experiences in animal experiments (inclusive approval to work as project leader for animal experiments), good communication abilities and ability to work in a team, resilience, and high willingness to work, personal initiative, very good knowledge of PC software (GraphPad, MS-Office programs), good knowledge of English and German.
