The department of physics at RWTH Aachen University offers a vibrant community playing leading roles in several particle physics experiments, including high-energy collider (CMS experiment), astro-particle physics, neutrino physics as well as the search for dark matter axions (MADMAX experiment). We work on operations and data analysis for existing experiments as well as research and development for future experiments. The successful candidate will participate in the early research and development phase of the MADMAX experiment. The MADMAX experiment will be the first implementation of a dielectric haloscope on the search for relic axions that could be responsible for the observed dark matter in the universe. The task will be to perform simulations and sensitivity estimations for the experiment, to participate in the commissioning of a prototype as well as research and development for basic components of the experiment such as the characterization of candidate materials to be used in the halosocpe.
We are looking for excellent applicants with an University degree (Master or equivalent) in experimental particle physics and the potential to drive progress in a new field of axion physics. Experience with simulation software and/or practical experience in radio-frequency technology are beneficial.
What we offer:
The position is limited to 3 years and is to be filled as soon as possible. This is a part-time position (50% of the standard weekly hours for full-time employees).
The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree.
The salary corresponds to level TV-L 13.
