The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

in the field: Neu­ro­co­gni­tive Deve­lop­ment & Cli­ni­cal Neu­ro­psy­cho­logy

The posi­tion is star­ting on Febru­ary 1, 2019. The posi­tion ent­ails 65% of the full­time weekly hours and is fixed- term for 3 years until 31.01.2022. The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by § 2 (2) Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts­zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz – Wiss­ZeitVG). The posi­tion offers the chance to obtain fur­ther aca­de­mic qua­li­fi­ca­tion (e.g. PhD).
The suc­cess­ful app­li­cant will work toge­ther with Prof. Shu-Chen Li, Prof. Dr. med. Alex­an­der Mün­chau, Prof. Dr. Chris­tian Beste and other mem­bers of the rese­arch team in the DFG-fun­ded rese­arch group “Cogni­tive theory for Tou­rette syn­drome – a novel per­spec­tive”. The aim of the pro­ject is to under­stand neu­ro­co­gni­tive deve­lop­men­tal pro­ces­ses under­ly­ing Tou­rette-syn­drome. The posi­tion will be based in Chair of Life­span Deve­lop­men­tal Neu­ro­sci­ence at TU Dres­den.

Work­ing field:

The pro­ject is a col­la­bo­ra­tion bet­ween the Chair of Life­span Deve­lop­men­tal Neu­ro­sci­ence, the Paed­iatric and Adult Move­ment Dis­or­ders and Neu­ro­psych­ia­try Group at the Uni­ver­sity of Lübeck and the Depart­ment of Child and Ado­lescent Psych­ia­try and Psy­cho­the­rapy at the Carl Gus­tav Carus Uni­ver­sity Hos­pi­tal at TU Dres­den. By con­duc­ting beha­vio­ral expe­ri­ments and mea­su­ring elec­tro­en­ce­pha­lo­gra­phy (EEG) during cogni­tive tasks in child­ren and ado­lescence with vs. without Tou­rette-syn­drome, the pro­ject aims to com­pare aty­pi­cal with typi­cal deve­lop­ment to under­stand neu­ro­co­gni­tive dys­func­tions of Tou­rette-syn­drome.


  • uni­versity degree (Dip­loma, Mas­ter) in Psy­cho­logy, Cog­nit­ive Neur­os­cience, or Cog­nit­ive Sci­ence
  • interest in cog­nit­ive neur­os­cience, devel­op­mental and clin­ical research.
  • Can­did­ates with exper­i­ence in EEG, com­puter pro­gram­ming skills (e.g., MAT­LAB) and pro­fi­ciency in Eng­lish and Ger­man lan­guages are par­tic­u­larly encour­aged to apply.

What we of­fer:

The Faculty of Psy­cho­logy sup­ports mul­ti­di­sci­pli­nary rese­arch with ample oppor­tu­nities for trai­ning and col­la­bo­ra­tion. The faculty is invol­ved in DFG fun­ded Col­la­bo­ra­tive Rese­arch Cen­ter and Excel­lence Clus­ter. The Chair of Life­span Deve­lop­men­tal Neu­ro­sci­ence has elec­tro­en­ce­pha­lo­gra­phy (EEG) sys­tems with EEG cabin, beha­vio­ral tes­ting rooms as well as access to a rese­arch-dedi­ca­ted 3T MRI scan­ner, tran­scra­nial magne­tic sti­mu­la­tion (TMS) and direct cur­rent sti­mu­la­tion (tDCS) sys­tems through the uni­ver­sity’s neu­ral ima­ging cen­ter.
