Tech­ni­sche Uni­ver­si­tät Dres­den - Faculty of Busi­ness and Eco­no­mics

The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

Junior Pro­fes­sor­ship (W1) in Busi­ness Manage­ment, esp. Stra­tegy and Orga­ni­sa­tion
(with ten­ure track to W2)

As part of the Ten­ure Track Pro­gramme of the Ger­man Federal Govern­ment and the Federal Sta­tes, the Faculty of Busi­ness and Eco­no­mics invi­tes app­li­ca­ti­ons for the
Junior Pro­fes­sor­ship (W1) in Busi­ness Manage­ment, esp. Stra­tegy and Orga­ni­sa­tion
(with ten­ure track to W2) with a four year con­tract as a tem­porary public offi­cial, to be fil­led on 1st Octo­ber 2019. If the inte­rim eva­lua­tion is posi­tive, the employ­ment con­tract will be exten­ded to a total of six years. In the fifth year, a ten­ure eva­lua­tion will be car­ried out by a TU Dres­den eva­lua­tion com­mis­sion). Fol­lo­wing a posi­tive eva­lua­tion, a per­ma­nent Chair (W2) of Busi­ness Manage­ment, esp. Stra­tegy and Orga­ni­sa­tion will be gran­ted.
Eva­lua­tion cri­te­ria mutually agreed upon when the posi­tion is accep­ted will form the basis of the eva­lua­tion pro­ce­du­res. Essen­tial ele­ments of the eva­lua­ti­ons will be the sci­en­ti­fic suc­cess in the form of sub­ject-rele­vant and high-qua­lity publi­ca­ti­ons, the acqui­si­tion of third-party rese­arch funds as well as rela­ted pro­ject manage­ment, com­mit­ment and suc­cess in teaching per­for­mance and pro­mo­tion of young sci­en­tists, the net­wor­king in the sci­en­ti­fic com­mu­nity and spe­cial com­mit­ment to the aca­de­mic sel­fad­mi­nis­tra­tion.

Work­ing field:

During the tem­porary posi­tion at the Junior Pro­fes­sor­ship the app­li­cant must prove that she/he is capa­ble of ful­fil­ling all requi­re­ments in teaching and rese­arch in this field. She/He will repre­sent the field of Busi­ness Manage­ment, esp. Stra­tegy and Orga­ni­sa­tion, in rese­arch and teaching in the field of Stra­tegy, Lea­dership and Orga­ni­sa­tion and par­ti­ci­pate in aca­de­mic sel­fad­mi­nis­tra­tion. The Junior Pro­fes­sor is expec­ted to teach cour­ses in the faculty's bache­lor, mas­ter and Diplom pro­gram­mes, in par­ti­cu­lar in Busi­ness Manage­ment foun­da­ti­ons and spe­cia­li­sa­ti­ons. The initial teaching load is four aca­de­mic hours per week. We also expect the suc­cess­ful can­di­date to coope­rate actively with both the mem­bers of the faculty and other disci­pli­nes wit­hin the uni­ver­sity, and to cont­ri­bute to exter­nal fund­rai­sing.

Require­ments:

The ideal can­di­date holds an excel­lent PhD (or equi­va­lent) in rele­vant fields and has demons­tra­ted the poten­tial to publish in inter­na­tio­nal top jour­nals and pre­sent the rese­arch results at inter­na­tio­nal con­fe­ren­ces. In line with the faculty's and the Busi­ness Manage­ment group's pro­file, we expect the can­di­date to con­duct empi­ri­cal rese­arch aimed at theory buil­ding. We addi­tio­nally wel­come a rese­arch pro­file pre­fe­r­a­bly roo­ted in beha­vio­ral theo­ries of manage­ment and orga­ni­sa­tion, with a focus on those fields of manage­ment that spe­ci­fi­cally relate to stra­tegy (e.g. stra­te­gic lea­dership, stra­te­gic com­pe­tence manage­ment, stra­te­gic HRM) and orga­ni­sa­tion (e.g. change manage­ment, net­work manage­ment, skills in inno­va­tion, orga­ni­sa­ti­ons and demo­gra­phic change). We expect good teaching skills as well as the ability and wil­ling­ness to offer cour­ses in Eng­lish. Pro­fi­ci­ency in Ger­man is not a pre­re­qui­site for appoint­ment. Howe­ver, we expect the suc­cess­ful can­di­date to acquire suf­fi­ci­ent lan­guage skills in Ger­man to con­duct teaching and admi­nis­tra­tive tasks wit­hin two years of appoint­ment. Can­di­da­tes who hold a TUD PhD (or equi­va­lent) must have worked at least two years in a rese­arch posi­tion out­s­ide of TU Dres­den to be eli­gi­ble.

App­li­cants must ful­fil the employ­ment qua­li­fi­ca­tion requi­re­ments of § 63 of the Act on the Auto­nomy of Insti­tu­ti­ons of Hig­her Edu­ca­tion in the Free State of Sax­ony (SächsHSFG).
