Leibniz-Institut für Festkörper- und Werkstoffforschung Dresden e.V.
The Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden – in short IFW Dresden – is a non-university research institute and a member of the Leibniz Association. The IFW employs approxi-mately 600 people and one focus is on the training of young scientists besides enhancing fundamen-tal and applied research development. At the highest international level, the IFW operates modern materials science on a scientific basis and makes the obtained results useful for the economy. The complex and interdisciplinary research work is carried out within the IFW by five scientific institutes, which are supported by a highly developed technical infrastructure. The IFW supports its employees in reconciling work and family life and regularly submits to the berufundfamilie® audit.

Doctoral Research Position (female/male)
Integrated quantum dot devices
The Institute for Integrative Nanosciences (IIN), Leibniz IFW Dresden e.V. is one of the world leaders in the domain of strain-induced nano-architectures and provided pioneering contributions to the design, fabrication and characterization of self-assembled quantum dots, superlattices and rolled-up nano-structures. We seek for new strategies to integrate and functionalize nanostructures on a single chip.
As one of the protagonists in controlling the spatial and spectral properties of self-assembled single quantum dots, we aim to push the research on quantum dot based single photon and entangled pho-ton sources to the next level. A number of critical challenges remain towards an ideal, application ready photonic device. This will be an excellent topic for a PhD student. The successful candidate will receive a systematic training in this field and have access to a number of state-of-the-art R&D techni-ques.
For more detailled information please contact directly Professor Dr. Oliver G. Schmidt (email@example.com).
Successful candidates should have a Master's degree or Diploma in either physics, material science or optical engineering, who are interested in interdisciplinary, applied research and active contribution with own ideas into the team. High motivation and good communication skills in English (spoken and written) are expected.
What we offer:
We offer a Doctoral Research Position (female/male) starting as soon as possible.
The employment contract is limited to 12 months with the possibility of renewal for 2 further years. The salary is based upon the TV-L rules (EG 13; 50%).
The IFW would like to increase the proportion of women in science. Qualified women are therefore explicitly invited to apply. Severely disabled applicants are given preferential treatment if they have the same qualifications.
How to apply:
The application should include a cover letter, a detailed CV, the study records and the contact infor-mation of your referees. We will invite qualified candidates for on-site interviews. Please give the following reference number (A4000-2/18) and send your application not later than 15 of August, 2018 as a single pdf file exclusively to: firstname.lastname@example.org
