At the Insti­tute of Optics and Atomic Phys­ics of TU Ber­lin the research group Non­lin­ear Optics of Nano­struc­tures (Prof. Wog­gon) the opto-elec­tronic prop­er­ties of nano­scopic mater­i­als and func­tional struc­tures.

The pro­ject is related to the optical and elec­tronic prop­er­ties of CdSe nano­plate­lets and related 2D mater­i­als. These two dimen­sional semi­con­duct­ors exhibit unique, new mater­ial prop­er­ties, and are ideally suited to invest­ig­ate basic aspects of 2D sys­tems. The pro­ject aims to invest­ig­ate their prop­er­ties, e.g. coher­ence and exciton-phonon inter­ac­tion, as well as their sys­tem­atic modi­fic­a­tion, e.g. by hetero struc­ture form­a­tion or external fields.

Work­ing field:

Embed­ded in a main research line of the work group on 2D mater­i­als it is planned to invest­ig­ate the optical and elec­tronic prop­er­ties of semi­con­ductor nano­plate­lets and fur­ther 2D sys­tems. The there­fore applied meth­ods include pho­to­lu­min­es­cence, ultra­fast pump-probe and two photon spec­tro­scopy. In close cooper­a­tion with inter­na­tion­ally renowned research groups from syn­thesis and the­ory as part­ners, the exper­i­mental find­ings shall then be modeled. Sup­port of teach­ing at the chair of Non­lin­ear Optics.


Suc­cess­fully com­pleted uni­versity degree (Mas­ter, Dip­lom or equi­val­ent) in phys­ics or phys­ical chem­istry; an above aver­age com­ple­tion of an exper­i­mental/the­or­et­ical dip­lom/mas­ter thesis desired. Exper­i­ence in at least one of the areas nanosys­tems, semi­con­ductor phys­ics, ultra­fast phys­ics/spec­tro­scopy or (non­lin­ear) optics is desir­able. Pro­gram­ming exper­i­ence and solid know­ledge of Eng­lish is of advant­age for work­ing on exper­i­mental ques­tions and mod­el­ling.
