The Max Planck Insti­tute for the His­tory of Sci­ence, Ber­lin is look­ing to employ a stu­dent assist­ant

(up to 60 hours per month) for the Research IT, to work on digital solu­tions for research in the his­tory of sci­ence, lim­ited until Septem­ber 30th, 2018, with the pos­sib­il­ity of exten­sion.

Work­ing field:

You will work on the real­isa­tion of web applic­a­tions and digital pro­to­types involving image ana­lysis, GIS and data visu­al­isa­tion, net­work ana­lysis and linked data applic­a­tions. In addi­tion you will assist in pro­ject plan­ning, event organ­isa­tion and com­mu­nic­a­tion (train­ings, talks, work­shops, etc.).

Your spe­cific tasks and respons­ib­il­it­ies will depend on your prior exper­i­ence and your abil­ity to acquire rel­ev­ant know­ledge in a self-dir­ec­ted man­ner.


Your pro­file:
  • Enrolled at a uni­versity in Ber­lin or Branden­burg (min. third semester)
  • Highly organ­ised
  • Good com­mu­nic­a­tion skills (Ger­man and Eng­lish)
  • Inter­ested in Digital Human­it­ies

Desired skills:
  • Cod­ing exper­i­ence in JavaS­cript, Python, R or sim­ilar
  • Pro­to­typ­ing skills (paper-based or using Adobe Exper­i­ence Design, UXPin or sim­ilar)
  • Famili­ar­ity with Linux/Unix envir­on­ments and bash script­ing
  • Famili­ar­ity with data­bases (SQL and Graph data­bases)
  • Famili­ar­ity with Linked Data
  • Exper­i­ence in one or more top­ics of Digital Human­it­ies (digital edi­tions, data visu­al­isa­tion, schol­arly data­bases, lan­guage pro­cessing, machine learn­ing, image pro­cessing, etc.)

The salary is paid accord­ing to the rates for stu­dent employ­ment in the frame of the Max Planck Soci­ety’s pro­gram to sup­port junior sci­ent­ists.
