RWTH Aachen - Institut für Theoretische Elektrotechnik

The Chair of Electromagnetic Theory conducts research in the simulation of semiconductor devices, which are the basis for all electronic appliances from smartphones over photovoltaics and high-speed data transfer to power electronics for electromobility. We develop simulation programs for the detailed description of physical processes within these devices. Additionally, charge carrier transport in novel semiconductor device types is investigated and optimized.

Research Assistant/Associate

You will work on the simulation of high-speed III-V heterojunction transistors (HBTs) for very high frequency applications (near field RADAR, THz waves, high-speed communications etc.) funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG). The electron transport is modeled on a microscopic level including thermal effects (i.e. self-heating). First, an existing simulator for silicon has to be extended to the case of III-V materials and then different levels of approximation are to be investigated for thermal transport. An important aspect of this research project is the development of numerically stable algorithms. The final simulation program will be used to understand transport in extremely scaled devices and to explore the limits of the III-V technology.

Erwartete Qualifikationen:

You need a university degree (Master or comparable) in electrical engineering or physics with excellent results. You should be highly interested in semiconductor physics, numerics and high-performance computing. Since you will work in an international team, good English skills are required.

Unser Angebot:

The position is for 3 years and is to be filled as soon as possible. This is a full-time position.

The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree.

The salary corresponds to level EG 13 TV-L.

RWTH Aachen University is certified as a "Family-Friendly University". We particularly welcome and encourage applications from women, disabled persons and ethnic minority groups, recognizing they are underrepresented across RWTH Aachen University. The principles of fair and open competition apply and appointments will be made on merit.
