Research Assistant - salary grade E13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

under the reserve that funds are granted - part-time employment may be possible

The Quality and Usability Lab, a chair of Faculty IV - Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, is dealing with the quality and usability of ICT systems. The focus is on quality of speech, audio, video and gaming, analysis of speaker characteristics, user experience of interactive and mobile services, privacy and security of such services, as well as applying crowdsourcing methods.

Working field:

The advertised position comprises the determination of speech quality in different networks (mobile and fixed). To this end, crowdsourcing methods should be applied, i.e. data collection and/or rating is done by real users within an online platform. From an academic viewpoint it is particularly interesting to compare the collected data with data obtained in the laboratory. The project topic is also meant to be the basis for a dissertation. Following tasks are part of the position:
  • Literature research
  • Implementation and extension of a platform for data collection at the users’ side
  • Prediction of quality aspects with different algorithms
  • Conducting crowdsourcing data collection and ratings
  • Aggregation and statistical analysis of data and ratings
  • Publication and presentation of research results in scientific journals, conferences, as well as at standardization meetings of the ITU-T
  • Assistance in supervising Bachelor and Master theses, student projects, etc.
  • PhD thesis preparation is possible.

Requirements:

  • Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in computer science, computer engineering, electrical/electronic engineering, media technology, audio communication or related areas
  • Good skills in Android programming and frontend development: HTML5/CSS3, JS, jQuery, JSON
  • Experience with backend development: RESTful API, preferable J2EE
  • Skills in digital signal processing, favorable: speech and/or audio processing
  • Preferably: experience in empirical data acquisition and statistical analysis
  • Very good English skills, business fluent German

How to apply:
