Max Planck Institute for Human Development - Center for Adaptive Rationality

Research Internship Fish behaviour

Working field:

The Max Planck Institute for Human Development is recruiting an intern for a research internship to study the transfer of information in fish populations. The project investigates whether the social network structure in fish populations predicts how information travels through populations. The fieldwork for this project has already been completed and we are recruiting a student to assist in analyzing video material on the order of fish arriving at food patches and the subsequent data analyses. The internship offers the possibility to gain first-hand experience in scientific data collection and analyses in a stimulating research environment. The applicant will work in close collaboration with a research scientist at the institute (Dr. Ralf Kurvers) and in cooperation with the Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (Prof. Jens Krause).

What we offer:

Internships typically last 10 to 12 weeks or longer and are reimbursed with about 380 Euros per month (based on full-time internship). The preferred starting date is June 1 2017, but others dates are negotiable. Also part-time internship is possible.

How to apply:

To apply, please send a (i) short statement of research interest, (ii) a curriculum vitae and (iii) a high-school diploma (Abiturzeugnis) as a single PDF file to Ralf Kurvers (
