Wei­zen­baum-Insti­tut e.V. - Research unit "Methods lab"

Founded in 2017, the Weizenbaum Institute researches the effects of advancing digitalization on our society. With its recommendations for action, it helps to ensure that the digital transformation is sustainable, self-determined and responsible. The Weizenbaum Institute is supported by a network of seven partners, including Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, Berlin University of the Arts, the University of Potsdam, the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (FOKUS) and the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB). The institute is funded by the BMBF and the state of Berlin. It is located in Berlin.

We are looking as of September 1, 2024 for a Student assistant (m/f/d) "Methods lab" with 10 hours per week. The position is initially limited until September 14, 2025. Further employment will be sought and is dependent on further funding approval.

Work content:
The Methods Lab is the central office for the promotion, networking and coordination of methods training and consulting at the Weizenbaum Institute. In addition to ongoing research projects of the research groups, methodological research is also carried out and tools for collecting and analyzing digital data are developed. Your tasks:
\ Support in the planning, preparation and implementation of scientific events (e.g. workshops and lectures)
\ Maintenance of the Methods Lab website and blog, incl. writing own texts (https://methodslab.weizenbaum-institut.de/)
\ Support with documentation, presentations and publications (e.g., preparation of presentation slides, literature research, proofreading of texts)

Requirements:

\ At least two semesters in a social science-oriented subject such as journalism and communication studies, media and political communication, media informatics, sociology, political science, social psychology, computational social science
\ Interest in digitalization research and collaboration with researchers from different disciplines (e.g., social sciences and humanities, computer science, psychology, and law)
\ Knowledge of empirical research methods and statistics is an advantage
\ Good knowledge of English
