Tech­ni­sche Uni­ver­si­tät Dres­den (TUD), as a Uni­ver­sity of Excel­lence, is one of the lea­ding and most dyna­mic rese­arch insti­tu­ti­ons in the coun­try. The posi­tion is star­ting on April 1, 2023 or as soon as pos­si­ble. The posi­tion is limi­ted for 2 years. An exten­sion to appro­xi­mately 4 years is anti­ci­pa­ted. The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by the Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts­zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz-WissZeitVG). The posi­tion offers the chance to obtain fur­ther aca­de­mic qua­li­fi­ca­tion.

Working field:

Tumours deve­lop by step­wise acqui­si­tion of abnor­mal cel­lu­lar beha­viour through gene­tic and non-gene­tic chan­ges. In the evol­ving pro­cess they accu­mu­late hete­ro­gen­eity, a main dri­ver for the­rapy resis­tance and rel­apse.
To streng­t­hen our diverse team, we are loo­king for a post­doc­to­ral fel­low to study tumour evo­lu­tion, hete­ro­gen­eity, and resis­tance in fusion-gene-dri­ven sar­co­mas in child­ren and young adults. This is part of a large „Decade Against Can­cer“ con­sor­tium „HEROES-AYA“ dis­tri­bu­ted over mul­ti­ple loca­ti­ons, inclu­ding the Ger­man Can­cer Rese­arch Cen­ter (dkfz).
The Rese­arch Group of Anna Poe­tsch, where this pro­ject will be based, will par­ti­cu­larly focus on data inte­gra­tion of lar­gely multi-omics data in bulk and sin­gle cell to gene­rate bio­lo­gi­cal insight into mecha­nisms behind tumour evo­lu­tion, hete­ro­gen­eity, and resis­tance.
The posi­tion will offer an exci­ting col­la­bo­ra­tive inter­di­sci­pli­nary rese­arch pro­ject embed­ded in a pres­ti­gious rese­arch con­sor­tium. The suc­cess­ful can­di­date will use methods on multi-omics data ana­ly­sis and machine lear­ning to inves­ti­gate bio­lo­gi­cal mecha­nisms behind tumour evo­lu­tion, hete­ro­gen­eity, and resis­tance. Data will be avail­able for geno­mics (WGS, sc-DNA-seq, spa­tial geno­mics, copy num­ber alte­ra­ti­ons), epi­ge­no­mics (ATAC-Seq, sc-ATAC-Seq, DNA methyla­tion), tran­scrip­to­mics (RNA-Seq, scRNA-Seq), pro­teo­mics, patho­logy, radio­logy, liquid biop­sies, cli­ni­cal data, and expe­ri­men­tal data on pati­ent-matching orga­noid models. Thus, the suc­cess­ful can­di­date will have the oppor­tu­nity to receive trai­ning in cut­ting edge methods in multi-omics data inte­gra­tion (in bulk and sin­gle cell), state-of-the-art and novel machine lear­ning approa­ches, and trans­la­tio­nal can­cer rese­arch. This also app­lies to tea­ching (e.g. by super­vi­sing tuto­ri­als) and sci­en­ti­fic work.

Requirements:

  • excel­lent uni­ver­sity and PhD degree with expe­ri­ence in at least one of mole­cu­lar bio­logy, com­pu­ta­tio­nal bio­logy, gene­tics, geno­mics, can­cer bio­logy, or equi­va­lent sci­en­ti­fic back­ground with an excel­lent under­stan­ding of genome bio­logy and can­cer rese­arch.
  • Com­pre­hen­sive pro­gramming expe­ri­ence in python and/or R.
  • Demons­tra­ble expe­ri­ence in multi-omics data ana­ly­sis.
  • very good inter­per­so­nal and com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills; in par­ti­cu­lar, the abi­lity to effec­tively work in a diverse, col­la­bo­ra­tive and inter­di­sci­pli­nary rese­arch envi­ron­ment.
  • Flu­ency in Eng­lish - writ­ten and oral. (Ger­man is not requi­red).
